Project Overview
The site for this community solar array was an old municipal landfill, which posed several unique challenges while creating additional environmental benefits.
Montante Solar worked closely with New York State DEC and a team of engineers to obtain installation approval for the landfill site. It also required a ballasted system in order to install the array without compromising the integrity of the landfill cap. The city opted to enter into a Power Purchase agreement, which meant that Montante Solar owns and operates the array but the City of Tonawanda purchases the power it produces. This was an ideal option for a municipality, as it requires no capital expense or upfront payment.
